A colorful way to say bye-bye to the Binki...

My two year old had a little addiction...a pacifier addiction. So, about four months ago I snipped the rubber part off and said it was broken. But, with a newborn and a constantly whining toddler it was more than I could bare so yes, I gave in and gave her my "back up" one. We all have a back up one right?!

Why do parents do this? Why do we give our children binkis only to have to take it away when we realize they are addicted to the dumb thing, or that it's pushing their teeth forward, or that it's got more germs than who knows what? I mean yes, it soothes them when they are babies...I suppose I just waited to long to take it away?! I should have done it about a year ago but needless to say we are binki free! This time no back ups and no giving in (I almost did a couple times, but I stuck to my guns). It's been three days now and she doesn't even ask for it! Miraculous I tell you!

I can't, for the life of me, remember who or how I heard of this idea but it worked like a charm! Here's how we said syaonara to the bink...

***OH and p.s. I was lucky enough to be apart of Jill's 50 states of bravery project...hop on over and see what it's all about :-) and she's offering 10% off at her etsy shop when you enter BRAVELADIES at checkout :-)

  2. So cute. We had the binky fairy come like the tooth fairy. They left the binkies, she left a great toy. Worked like a charm. I also think that pacifiers are way better than thumbsucking. You can't take away that thumb and many kids are sucking thumbs way longer than pacifiers.

  3. Such a good idea!! Charlie didn't have a problem giving it up, but I think Walker might...so I'll probably need to do this!

  4. Nicely done!!! I cut the top of the nipple off to my daughters bottles right before baby #2 arrived and told her the bottle was broken and she believed me. But binkies are tougher than that... thumbs are even worse.

  6. So precious!! Curious to know how she did on her first night without her Binki? I love the way you chose to end the cycle.
