Color List by Guest Blogger Melissa

Hello, friends! My name is Melissa Blake, and I am so honored to be guest posting on Aarean's beautiful blog. My blog, So About What I Said, follows my life with a physical disability, but today, I'm so excited that I get to write about something a bit more light-hearted...

A case of the blues. Green with jealousy. Red-faced and angry. Colors have always been such a good tool for describing our feelings. No matter how we feel, there's always a color to go along with it. Color has always played an important role in my life, and from a young age, my favorite colors were the bright, poppy ones: Pinks and yellows and oranges. They match my personality, and that's no coincidence. Aren't our favorite colors part of who we are? Need proof? Check out these 5 color inspirations that never fail to make me smile...
Pink balloons
Balloons have always put a smile on my face, and these limited-edition Valentine's Day balloons by Geronimo are extra special.
Sunflowers
Yellow just screams spring to me -- a time of rebirth and renewal. And nothing screams yellow better than a beautiful sunflower!
The Water
My mom is known in our family for taking lots of vacation photos. Her favorite subject? The water. She took this photo of the Gulf of Mexico years ago, and I low how the serenity seems to just jump out of the photo.

Red Apples
I'm from Illinois, so falls in the Midwest have always been magical times in my family. One of my favorite traditions growing up was the annual trip to the local apple orchard. We'd pet the animal, eat some fresh apple cider donuts and pick gorgeous red apples. The field seemed to go on for miles with rows and rows of apple trees, and it was so fun to try and find the reddest one!

Pastel rings
Pastel always reminds me of childhood for some reason (maybe because they're the colors of Easter), but these pastel rings have been on my wish list for a few months now.

I'd love to know, friends: What role has color played in your life? Do you think color is a reflection of our personality? What are your favorite colors?

  1. I loved this! I remember at work years ago they had us do personality testing, and the different personality groups were named different colors. It really fit too, because I came up to be a Blue-Green, and those are my favorites. :)

  2. What a cool post! Love the balloons! I love blues, purples, greens, and silvers which apparently go along with my zodiac sign, Pisces.

  3. Color is so important to me. I've always always loved bright colors. Yellow, orange, pink. All of them. My wardrobe is filled with tons of different hues, weather their neon, pastel or basics. I've always been able to express myself through my style, and color has been a big part of that. Yellow is my absolute favorite and I don't know what I would do without it. My bedroom has tons of yellow all over, but not enough to be overwhelming. Colors is such a huge part of my life. It inspires me, makes me stop and just stare at the colors of nature and gives me joy. I am so grateful for God's creative mind and his use of color. I am so glad you features Melissa Blake's blog(it's my new must read), and her passion for color and life!

  5. I love pastels. They are so pretty & soft & calming but happy. Bright colors are favorites too...I've been loving teal & have always loved yellow.

Makeup is one of my favorite ways to express color. If you do a bright red lip, you feel sexy or a light soft eye shadow, you feel delicate & pretty. : )

Thanks for sharing your blog & this post! I liked rambling on about color. : )

  8. Melissa, wonderful guest post. I tend to live in neutrals, my wardrobe is black and grey mostly. But I LOVE color around me. I think it is fun to use color to decorate in unexpected ways. For example a neutral toned hallway that leads to a brilliantly bright painted powder room. Now I'm heading over to http://melissabxoxo.blogspot.com/to check out your blog!

  9. I loved this post. Melissa seems like someone who makes people smile. My favorite color is Yellow. Yellow reminds me of sunshine and happiness. I love a pop of yellow in any room or outfit. Yellow and gray were my wedding colors, so when I see yellow it reminds me of my special day. Yellow just makes me happy.
