DIY Upholstered Ottoman BEFORE & AFTER

A few months back, we were in search of a HUGE coffee table (4 ft x 4 ft). I couldn't find any that didn't cost an arm and a leg. So Josh and I (with kids in tote) went to this consignment store downtown... low and behold we stumbled upon this beauty for about $150!

It was exactly 4 ft. x 4 ft... luck was definitely on our side that day!

Sometimes, I start on projects that are a little over my head. This ottoman project was one of them. Initially I wanted to put a zinc top on it, but than realized that would be dangerous with two littles running around. So my next option...upholstery.

I love upholstered ottomans for two reasons:
1. Its soft so I don't have to worry about that dreaded feeling of "don't fall and smack your head on the corner!"
2. They add warmth to a space.

With lots of sanding, and a paint job gone wrong...than more sanding... it finally came together!

I sanded it down to the bones...and decided to paint the legs white
(I didn't sand the top b/c it was going to be covered with fabric...)
I HATED the way the white looked. So I had to re-sand the entire thing again.
***I may or may not have said a few choice words ha.
After it was all sanded down, I sent it in to an upholsterer where
I had them tuft the top with fabric I had bought at a discount fabric shop.
Then, my cute hubby and mom stained the bottom half with a dark maple color
to match my side table and bookshelves.

    1. We used a place called "home trends" who sent it out to one of their upholsterers.
