An Eruption of Color

I always love getting emails from blogging friends who see something colorful and send it my way! Just today I got one from Cheryl that made my jaw drop to the floor. Not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagined an entire village covered in colorful flower petals. However, it really happened...

"An advertising agency commissioned photographer Nick Meek to bring this vision to life to promote Sony's new 4K TV. It took the creative team and the inhabitants of an entire village in Costa Rica over two weeks to pluck all the petals of the brightest, most vibrant flowers they could find. Over 8 million flower petals were collected to represent the 8 million pixels of Sony's new TV. The flower petals were released creating breathtaking visuals. The petals swept through the town, erupted from a volcano and floated down the river."

I wish I could have been there to witness something so amazing and breathtaking as this. At least I now know that if someone can manage to gather up 8 million flower petals and have them erupt out of a fire breathing mountain...anything, and I mean ANYTHING is possible!

Colorful Easter Tassel Garland...makes my heart go pitter patter

My friend showed me a garland she had made for her mantle and my jaw dropped. I fell in love with it...so I decided my mantle needed one just for the Easter holiday! It adds so much color to the room, and I just might NEVER take it down!

So, this weekend while listening to General Conference I had time to cut strips, tie strips and than hang the strips :-). It's funny, when my hands keep busy I am able to listen better.

What you'll need:
- 1/2 yard of eight different fabrics
-5 1/2 feet of upholstery rope (in the uphostery section at Joannes or any fabric store)

Simply cut your 1/2 yards into 2 inch strips, than tie them on to your rope! My friend first hung her rope and then tied her strips. However, I preferred just sitting and doing it on the floor; even though my back may not agree.

Gold Leafed Easter Eggs...

Oh baby, baby...these are colorful, bold, gold, and quite fantastic. So I guess that would make these
"co-bo-go-tastic". Not to mention, they are about as easy as a pb&j and I attribute that to the dozen colorful hard boiled eggs that were pre-dyed at my local Ralphs grocery store!!!

No joke, in the egg section these were singing my name for $3.99. I couldn't pass it up...so if you don't want to hassle with the dying process check out your grocery store and see if they carry these!

Anyways, these were super fun to create and even prettier than I thought. I have them in this milk glass bowl on my dinner table and when the light hits them just right they look like they're glowing (sounds poetic and magical huh?!) no, but seriously, they really do look magical.

You need:
-a dozen dyed hard boiled eggs
-gold leaf flakes
-modpodge or glue
-sponge brush or any brush will do the trick

Directions:
Simply paint on a very, very thin layer of modpodge onto your egg. Then, with tweezers, lay your leafing. I used tweezers because this stuff likes to stick to finger tips, like a feather on tar, you'll never win and your patience will dwindle (or maybe that's just me?!). But seriously, use tweezers. Let dry and wah-lah!

^^^I tried it the lazy way and just rolled an egg around in some flakes...than I sort of rolled it with my hand to pat down the loose edges. It worked, but I feel like the flakes didn't look as good.

Rainbow Noodle Necklaces...with a twist!

You know how I love dye (find more evidence hereherehere, or here) . You know how I love glitter. You know how I love DIY projects. So this my friends, was so much fun to create! Well, actually I didn't think I knew what I was getting myself into, making 135 rainbow noodle necklace kits (wowza say that ten times fast) for a Fairy Bird reading party this weekend! Oh, it's been back aching, finger dying, noodle counting fun! :-)

Honestly though, this is SUCH A FUN project to do...especially for St.Patricks Day this Monday! I've seen these necklaces done before, but I have never seen them done with glitter and "sparkle puffs" (as my little Sage so eloquently calls them). May I just add, that these two secret ingredients make all the difference!
What you need:
-Rigatoni
-Rubbing Alcohol
-freezer bags (or since I was doing a HUGE amount I used trash bags)
-yarn
-dye
***if you want to add glitter and sparkle puffs than you can get that an any craft store!

Directions:
-Divide noodles into however many colors of dye you have
-place them in separate bags and pour about 2 TBS of rubbing alcohol over noodles
-pour dye over noodles, and move them around so the color is evenly distributed
***if using glitter sprinkle it on the noodles while they're wet, and move around to distribute evenly
-let them sit for about 2-3 hours, or overnight if you really want the dye to soak in
-cover cookie sheets with wax paper and pour noodles into each sheet
-let the noodles dry in the sun for about 6-7 hours (I let my dry all day)
***if you really want to get creative, once they're dry,  I painted some with glue and sprinkled more glitter on certain ones.
-Now you're ready to string 'em!

I found that 31" for kids is a good length! ^^^

COLOR TWISTER...and my new years resolution(s)

Happy Happy Friday to you all! This week has been a long one...with kiddies that can't seem to shake this miserable cold and me feeling a little, well, slightly "pee-em-ess-ey" lets just say I am sure glad it's the weekend! :-)

Did you set a new years resolution this year? I know that some people don't do new years resolutions, because they are scared of failing. However, I tend to feel like a failure if I don't set some sort of goals for the new year. Whether I achieve them or not, I still like to set them---there are a few things I have learned about New Years Resolutions...
1. Make them realistic
2. Don't make too many
3. Be specific about time frames (run a half marathon this spring...paint a new canvas for mom's bday in July...read a new book every month...)
4. Don't be so hard on yourself...the fact that you are setting goals and have new things in mind is a step forward in the first place...right?!
5. They don't have to be HUGE...it's "through small and simple things that great things come to pass"

I have two resolutions this year...TO SIMPLIFY and COMPLAIN LESS (complaining is an ugly way of ingratitude).

I will never forget what my mom said to me last year when I was planning my little sisters wedding shower, "what happened to the days when you invited a few women over, you all sat around, chatted, and than had a piece of cake and that was that". Less frills and more basics...smaller steps and less of them; more chatting and doing instead of planning and fretting. It's going to be a good year all about the simple things!

Speaking of which, I did this color twister with my girls the other day and I got all giddy with nostalgia. This was one of my favorite things to do when I was little, and now I'm doing it with my kids?! I love it, I love it!

banana cream bites (this takes things to a whole new level...)

Alright all you banana/whip cream/colorful sprinkle fans out there...the other day I created something that takes eating bananas to a whole new level. My littles tend to be a bit picky when it comes to eating their fruits and veggies, so I have no choice but to get creative.

I had a few whip cream bottles left over from our hot chocolate bar and decided to put them to use. So, I sliced up a banana, squeezed a dab of cream and added a few sprinkles on top of each slice...and my girls when buck wild! No joke I had to slice two more bananas because they couldn't get enough.

It made me so happy to see them wide mouthed and bushy tailed over these ridiculously easy-to-make, potassium filled, treats! Oh, and I wont lie, I made a separate plate just for me...totally guilt free my friends.
...and now, the evidence of the full on devour sesh...
I apologize for the picture overload but the camera just had a mind of it's own!
and than there was one...but not for long (bwahahaha)
Hope you have a very happy holiday...filled with lots of colorful things!
