Coloring A Bird House...

I ran into Joannes Fabric Store to grab a few swatches, and came out with a bag full of little DIY crafts that my three year old could play with. Let's just say, she is weaning off the good ole' afternoon nap and I am sort of in denial about it. Nap time is like my sanity time...and so with that said I have been trying to find ways to occupy her during the afternoon while my other babe is in dreamland. Not that easy of a task!

However, we got this little wooden birdhouse for $5 and we had so much fun painting it all sorts of bright colors ("poko-fots" included).  She than went on a search to find the perfect spot...I just had to document it all. Such a simple thing, made her so very happy!

Who knows, maybe this whole no-nap gig will lead to a lot of unnecessary, but super fantastic projects with my little three year old! So I guess with that, I'd say denial is over ruled :-).

my quick makeover "pick me ups"...

Sometimes, finding time to brush my hair and teeth can be a little daunting, let alone applying a little make up to feel slightly presentable.

Lets just say that since my three year old has turned...well, three; and my 15 month old has started getting her molars...life has been just absolute bliss (can you sense my sarcasm?! please tell me you can sense my sarcasm?!)

So, as much as we all love booger stained t-shirts and hair that hasn't been washed in a couple (ok a few) days...here are some of my all time favorite makeover pick me ups:

1.mascara, lipstick and blush (the three wah-lahs)
2. perfume (a spritz can make all the difference...for you and everyone around you ha)
3. accessories (it's like the cherry on top that ties it all together in seconds)

my go-to's for an easy fix

I'm a wannabe and I'm proud of it...

I attempted a little art project last week. I needed something above Sage's bed...bare walls don't fly with me :-). So I was on the search for something that wasn't too heavy, something that matched her bedding...something that wasn't too frilly or cheap looking.

I had no luck. So I decided I'd paint something myself. If anything, I can say it's got some sentimental value...my first painting for my little girl?!?!

I loved getting in touch with my inner Monet! It was quite therapeutic too, whippin' the paint brush wherever my heart desired! Moral of my story---don't be afraid to create something for a place in your home, rather than buying it. Sometimes, it's the ONE thing that just gives the room that last and final "touch"!

DIY little Sageys dresser overhaul

Before we moved, I wanted to get Sage a new dresser since she had outgrown the one we bought when she was just a babe. So, we headed to this consignment store downtown and there she was. An old, vintage, solid wood dresser. It was $119 and I couldn't resist...all it needed was a little TLC.

I had already bought Sage's bedding, so I knew I wanted to paint it something subtle:

BEFORE...
(disregard the baby carriers...)
oooh the pukey yellow and metallic silver...what a beauty
the husband hard at work...
<<<there's something quite hot about a man using a sander>>>

AFTER...
in all her glory

DIY lip moisturizer : 100% kiss proof

A friend told me about this and I had to try it...for three reasons:
1. I'm addicted to lip moisturizers/chapsticks
2. ...especially Vaseline
3. I always have crystal light in my pantry at all times in case of juice emergencies

This is super easy, and honestly it tastes like a million bucks!
...Im sure you'll get extra kisses too :-)

I'd say add just a pinch of drink mix to 1 TBS of vaseline...otherwise it's overkill with the flavoring!

HAPPY HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK...WITH SOME GOLD LEAFIN' & BEFORE/AFTER HOUSE PROJECTS!!!

Pink Hot Chocolate

While in World Market, as I was sifting through all of their awesome old school toys and foods; I came upon this little "pink hot chocolate" gem.

Who wouldn't like pink hot chocolate? I mean really? So I got it...and yesterday Sage and I enjoyed a nice warm cup of it. Something different than the ole' brown stuff.

Oh, and this hand held sifter is awesome (thanks Liz)...it's from Ikea and it works like a charm!

DIY Valentines

We are going to a little V-Day party tomorrow... which makes for a perfect excuse to get a little crafty! I decided to pull out a few of my art supplies for Sage's Valentines. They were super easy, super glittery (of course, you've gotta add a little sparkle to your notes of love right?!) and one of a kind...since ya know three year olds really think about that part. wink wink.

Bite size beauty...

Lately, my lips have been so dry after I wear my MAC lipstick. Not sure if it's that or just the weather... but I feel like it makes my lips look more like they are in desperate need of vaseline afterwards. I always put chapstick on first and than put on my lipstick. But, that doesn't seem to help much! Slightly annoying.

So, I went on a search. I wanted a lipstick that went on smooth, and didn't dry my pucker right on out :-).  I came upon these luminous creme lipsticks and LOVE them. The other great thing is they come in mini size (with a little tin). And, lets be honest, everything is cuter when it's in a mini size right!? ;-)

my mom always taught me, that when you're looking for a lipstick and don't want to apply fifty different kinds...just do a little test on the inside of your wrist. It's a great way to see how the color will look on your skin tone. She's just full of really valuable tips :-) ha
Here are my favorite colors...

Cozy Girl's Nursery

When we found out we were having another baby girl...I immediately started thinking of fun ideas for her nursery. With my first girl, I decorated her nursery in a lot of pink and greys. So with Cozette's little room I wanted it to be more colorful and bright! And ya know what...it's perfectly fitting because she is such a bright and cheery little thing.
My two must have's...1.baby powder scentsy and Johnson's baby lotion
(nothin' better than a good smelling baby in a good smelling room!)

-Bedding Bumper: Land of Nod
-Bedding Skirt: Pottery Barn kids (it's the same one I had from Sage's bedding, so I figured I'd reuse it)
-Dresser Handles: World Market
-Stencil: Martha Stewart stencil from Michael's
-Rug and Plates: Home Goods
-Artwork: Belle & Boo
-Dresser: Consignment store
-Fan: home depot
-Green Pouf: Ebay

DIY:
-Rocking Chair: Salvation army (see before and after HERE)
-Crib: Use to be mine and we just repainted it
-Baby rocking chair: use to be my husbands when he was little and we also repainted it
-Window Valance: made out of a piece of wood that my hubby nailed together and then I covered it with cute fabric I got on sale at Joannes (it all cost me about $30 compared to about $200 for the other window valences I was looking at!)
-Baskets: I covered the edges with fabric that matched the decor
-Lamp Shade: got it at TJMAX and than I glued the beads (from Joannes) around the bottom
-Ceiling and Molding wood work was done by some of Josh's friends and it's probably my favorite part of the nursery!

Guest Room Makeover...

My good old mother dearest did a little update in her guest room a few weeks ago. I  SO wish I had pictures of what this room looked like before. I'll just have to paint a picture for you to imagine...think a lot of browns and reds. Red walls, brown duvet...with a touch of country in the decor. The bathroom was half painted and had chipped orange spanish tiles for the flooring. As for the flooring in the bedroom, it was old forest green carpet that needed a serious update. That was the before.

So, My sister and I talked my mom into doing more of an eclectic feel...with bright blues, yellows and pinks. She got a lot of the pillows and nic-nacks at Home Goods. Her duvet she kept simple and white (b/c there was a lot goin' on with the pillows) which she got at Target (best store ever!). They retiled the bathroom floor with small marble square tiles, and ripped out the old carpet and replaced it with some nice dark wood slats. She than bought some great fabric at Joannes and whipped up some curtains (she is great with the needle and thread I tell ya!). For the headboard, she actually found it at a consignment store, and just touched it up with some paint!

Honestly, we all fight for this room when we visit home. It's perfectly eclectic and so much better than the bright red walls and poopy brown (yes it really was poopy brown) bedding; now I can openly admit it ha.
