My Dad likes to send me random emails...usually they are just super funny ones. But, on one particular day he sent this video my way, and I kept it in my inbox. Mostly, with the intention of sharing it on this here blog.
I watched this and I got so emotional. I think, it comes down to the fact that I have two little girls who I hope grow up knowing that they are the most beautiful things in the entire world, both inside and out. Society has such an effect on how we think of ourselves, both good & bad. I want my home to be the place where my girls learn about the importance of loving ourselves, of lifting one another up, of be grateful for our bodies...no matter what they look like. That's a HUGE task, especially because the world makes beauty out to be a lot of things that aren't beautiful. But, I'd say I'm up for the challenge! :-)
I read this critique and this post about this very video, things that I didn't even think about until I read their articles. They made some very good points, however, I tended to enjoy this video more than hate it. In the words of Aibileen Clark, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important".
I'd love to hear your thoughts...what do you think of this video?
